
Firstly what is Calazion?
It is a chronic non specific inflammatory granuloma of meibomian gland.
Aetiology
Infection of gland by low virulent organism or obstruction of lacrimal duct and retained secretions inside gland as in vitamin A deficiency
Diagnosis and clinical picture
Symptom
Non painful welling in eye lid but may be painful when it’s in first (acute) and this called hordelum interunm which we discuss later
Sign
Swelling in eye lid with ptosis if it’s in upper eye lid and ectropion when it’s in lower eye lid
Treatment
The case should be referred to ophthalmologist which incise and scraping the chalazion and if it is small and this rare may be treated with local antibiotics
